Congratulations to a brand new group of Animal Reiki Teachers! I had such a wonderful 3 days at Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in Essex, England, spending time with the precious animals and getting to know these wonderful ladies. The beautiful skies were breathtaking! Plus it was like a SARA Directors reunion, being with SARA’s VP Leah D’Ambrosio and our East Coast Director, Kelly McDermott-Burns 🙂
Such a blessing to watch the animals teaching wonderful healing lessons 🙂 I loved watching the two little lambs, Marble and May, choose to graze near us during our Reiju practice. These gentle little babies love being talked to and petted, and were very curious about our Reiki rituals 🙂 It was so sweet being with the donkeys – after initially coming over and being very curious, they left and went to the farthest edge of the field away from us, only moving slightly nearer to us at the end. When we left they ran after us as if to say, “Hey, where are you going?” They taught us to let go of our expectations and embrace however the session unfolds, even if they stay very far away; if the animals are choosing, then it’s always perfect!

Our 4th day was a wonderful deep dive into the Code of Ethics, and remembering all the reasons our approach with animals should be so different than with humans. Our healing circle, joined by the horses Dora, Blax, Jakey and Heidi was such an honor to behold.
When we learn to take a step back and learn to simply hold space with our Reiki meditation, it’s possible for animals to come forward and become active within the session. All animals deserve this chance to express their uniqueness and preferences, especially those who’ve come from a past of abuse and trauma. Many thanks to Sue Burton and Esme, and all the staff of Remus for showing us such generosity, kindness and great hospitality. Plus the vegan lunches every day were amazing! Luckily, the weather was very nice for most of the days, only raining one night and bit during the days. I did experience the very changeable nature of Essex summer weather, having dark sky, rain and extreme wind, followed by sun and no wind at all within one Reiki session out in the pasture!
