As 2007 comes to a close, I am happy to present this latest issue of my newsletter.

In this issue, we have two wonderful Animal Reiki articles, along with two book excerpts I highly recommend, and finally a touching article about the Moon Bears Rescue in China.

I'm hope you will be inspired by what you read this month: inspired to spread more Reiki healing to the animals in your immediate circle and beyond!

Coming soon: I will be offering newsletter archive articles in a published "book" format (a great reference!). So watch your emails for that announcement!

Please visit the Share Your Stories section below to find out about contributing to a future newsletter. Your experiences with animals and Reiki will help and inspire others!

Finally, think about deepening your connection to the Animal Reiki Source Community by furthering your education through the many class offerings, joining our free monthly Animal Reiki Talk, or joining our "Animal Reiki Source" yahoo group for help and healing of our animal friends.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season!

With Love and Reiki Blessings,
Kathleen

Rescuing Pawnee
I first met my horse 2 years ago when he came limping down my long driveway. I live on a horse boarding farm and at first I thought one of the horses had escaped, but this was an Appaloosa I'd never seen before. He was obviously old and sick and starving, but underneath the dirt and scars was a beautiful red roan coat with mahogany spots. And his eyes - despite his suffering he looked at me through these dark serene eyes as though he were saying, "I finally found you." He pressed his head against me and stood still for the longest time while I rubbed his ears. I named him Pawnee.

Brutus and Me
I don't know what happened to me there, in Brutus' kitchen. Brutus was wagging his tail and doing an excited dance, expecting to go for a walk. I could feel the pressure rise in my chest. My lips turned numb. I couldn't catch my breath and if I'd had hackles, they would have been rising. Brutus was now confused. His ears went down and he looked at me funny.

Excerpt from Into The Light
Introduction from Kathleen: I am pleased to present the following excerpt from Gail Pope's new animal hospice guide, Into the Light. Into the Light shows how, with creativity, love and hospice care your pet can maintain comfort, dignity and peace coming to the final end of life. It explains the actual processes of dying and death, how to plan, the kinds of care and treatment needed, and how you can continue to support and love them to the very end. I have learned so much from Gail and the BrightHaven animals about transitions, I highly recommend this guide not only to help our own animals on their way, but also for Reiki practitioners who may find themselves offering Reiki surrounding animal transitions.

The Moon Bears of Asia
Introduction from Kathleen: I am honored to share the words and experiences of Jill Robinson and Marc Bekoff regarding the plight of Moon Bears in Asia. These precious and beautiful creatures have truly touched my heart, as I'm sure they will yours. Please offer your help to these amazing bears through Reiki energy, and/or monetary donations if you are so moved. For more information, visit The China Moon Bear Rescue, www.animalsasia.org.

Book Excerpt: Preventing and Treating Cancer in Dogs
Chapter 1: Understanding the Holistic Approach to Treating Cancer When treating a dog with cancer, owners truly have many options. The reason for the large number of options is that there is no one "best" treatment for every pet. I share the holistic belief that each pet is an individual, and must be treated as such. I discuss this philosophy with owners right from the start. What worked for the last dog I treated may not work for their pet. Additionally, each owner is unique and has different wants and a different budget for their pet's medical care. Some owners want to do everything possible for their pet. Money is not an object, and they will often allow us to experiment and try quite a number of unique treatments. Others opt for a bit less, and may choose only surgery or one round of chemotherapy. Still others never want any conventional medications, but will only opt for natural therapies such as herbal therapy or homeopathy.
