Reiki With Unusual Creatures

By Ellen Bloomfield

Although many Reiki stories are about companion animals, I would like to tell you about some of the more unusual creatures who have chosen to accept Reiki from me.

In some cases, the creatures ask directly for Reiki. Wild creatures
grab your attention in an unmistakable way. When I take a walk, I
offer Reiki to whoever would like it. A hummingbird twittered loudly
at me one day. When he had my attention, he flew to a branch where I
could clearly see him, and sat on it. Then he gave me a long stare—the “Reiki Look”—just to be sure I understood. When he had had enough, he flew away.

With creatures such as insects, it’s not a look so much as it is their
presence. So I ask respectfully. If they want Reiki, they stay where
they are and my hands tingle. Small creatures move away or hide when they want to end the Reiki session. I always send my thanks to them for allowing me to give them Reiki.

One day, after offering Reiki, a honeybee appeared. She flew to my
palm, then flew around my hand, then returned to my palm. I became
worried about having a bee so close. She sensed that and flew away. I realized that I had not honored Mikao Usui’s Precept: Do not worry.
(Fear is a distraction.) The honeybee taught me to be completely open to giving Reiki. After all, I had offered it, and she had come. So I
sent Reiki to all bees, particularly her and her hive for the Highest
Good.

When I found ants on the counter in our bathroom, I told them they
needed to find another home outside, since they were in the way and my husband wanted to squish them. They were clearly just going about their business, hurrying back and forth, and I found them charming. I told my husband that I would deal with them. I offered them Reiki in exchange for leaving. I held my hands about a foot above them. My hands began to tingle and the ants paused underneath them! I was thrilled. I persuaded my husband to wait, and the ants disappeared within a few days.

Sometimes a creature will want Reiki but cannot request it. A friend
pointed out an ailing sea anemone. It was in a huge tank with lots of
other sea anemones, fish, shrimp, a clam, and live corals. The other
sea anemones looked like beautiful flowers, with hundreds of gently
waving tentacles. I would never had recognized this particular one,
since it looked like a very small water balloon. In the center was an
indentation from which a few tentacles waved. I held my hands out. A
pair of clown fish seemed particularly interested in my hands, but I
couldn’t tell if the sea anemone was accepting Reiki. However, within
thirty minutes, I had a clear response: Quite a number of tentacles
had emerged from its center and waved in the water. Later, I found out
that it was a newcomer to the tank and was stressed. When I went back to visit, it too looked like a beautiful flower. It was the size of my
hand, with lovely, translucent tentacles.

I have given Reiki to fish in creeks, grasshoppers, spiders, snails,
and praying mantises, trees, and plants, to name just some of them. I feel honored to be able to offer Reiki to all creatures.
