Reiki and My Horses
By Erin Pearson
As a new Reiki Practitioner, I received wonderful validation that this healing method is legitimate on my first attempt to use it. Three colts had just been gelded and the procedures went very well. Unfortunately, all three of my colts got very bad infections, huge swelling and were miserable within two days.
Being a new Reiki Practitioner (I had only taken the first attunements a couple of weeks before this), I was a little lacking in confidence. I'm sure many of you can identify with this skepticism. I had gone through the class and attunements (and it was an amazing experience) but I hadn't tried to use the energy on my own yet. I still doubted that it was "real" or that I could offer it, myself. I mean, who am I to think I can help heal anything with this invisible energy? I had to trust, as my teacher told me, that even if I don't always "feel" the energy, that it is coming through and the "intent" is the critical point.
I was very concerned about these boys. I watched and waited for a couple of days to see if they would begin recovering on their own and sadly, they didn't. I became alarmed and decided not to wait any longer. What a great opportunity to do an experiment!
So, I did Reiki treatments on two of my colts, focusing mainly on the root chakra and solar plexus, which were the areas that were burning up with heat. I also did some work on the heart chakra. I just stayed on the main spots for quite a while until I felt that it was enough. I did two treatments in 24 hours on the two colts. By about 36 hours into the symptoms, the two Reiki colts were on the way to recovery and the third colt was in danger, high fever, tremendous swelling and lethargic. I didn't wait any longer and got him up and started Reiki on him immediately. I noticed that all three of the boys seemed to become very calm and quiet and did some releases with their jaws and deep breathing as the treatment was working through them. I ended up doing three treatments on the 3rd colt and he had a complete recovery. All three colts' swelling, pain and other symptoms disappeared.
As a lifelong horse trainer, breeder and lover I have become very experienced as a horse healer using herbs, homeopathics, physical therapy and when necessary, medicine. I am blown away by this simple, non-invasive and loving healing method that Reiki provides. Reiki is another tool to help my horses on all levels of their experience.
I am now a Reiki II practitioner and am thrilled with using distance healing on my animals--I feel for me, it may even be MORE effective. I am really excited about its implications for wild horses that I train-using distant Reiki and offering it to them is producing amazingly quick acceptance of me as a friend.
