Reiki, Initiations and Animals
By Leen Joseph

I have four cats: 16, 15 and 14, and a young one who has been with us since May of last year, who is the scoundrel of course! The three older cats have arthritis and sometimes have a hard time getting off the coach and running around. They always come to me when I sit down, asking me for healing. How do I know they ask? They come at a moment when they intuitively know they will receive what they want. My hands find their sore spots, because when following inner guidance, we all know where the hands should go. The cats rest on my lap for as long as they need and ask for nothing more. When the healing is done (that is a time that they decide) they just jump off and let another cat receive a treatment. It is a regular tradition for them to take turns with Reiki in this way, the eldest of course being more demanding than the ones lesser of age. It is amazing how beautiful their eyes start to shine when they have received Reiki. Their fur also shines more and they look healthier (of course they are!)

I am very grateful for the gift of being a channel for healing and am quite sure these cats wouldn’t have stayed with us for such a long period of time if they hadn’t received Reiki a few times a week (whenever needed). Each treatment also brings us closer in contact and they can intuitively communicate their needs and questions. We have a very deep bond.

I initiated one of my cats, (Tera-Mai™ Reiki I and II initiations) five years ago. She did change a bit after that! She is very sensitive to energies, and became quite emotional at first, but started to feel grounded after some time. Now, whenever I have a client in my Reiki room, she wants to come and check things out, as if giving her approval and helping out with the healing. She is also very sensitive in feeling when something is not right or an energy is not in place in a room.

My other cats have never asked for an initiation, and I wouldn’t dream of going against their wishes of course! On the other hand, I see the young one beginning to show interest in it; we will see if she decides to ask. Initiating an animal may also be good for his own healing, especially for working out karmic issues. I believe that initiations are very strong for healing, but should only be done when and if the animal asks for it. How do we know the animal asks? Trust your instincts; they will show you!

May the New Year bring peace
May the New Year bring everlasting love
May the New Year bring all your heart desires
May the New Year transform us all into who we really are: a product of divine love and compassion and thus make the world a better place for all.
