Reiki for Transitions, Reiki for Recovery and a Reflection on Dog Shows

Shula‘s Story
I am privileged to work alongside Tim Couzens, one of England’s leading holistic vets, who specialises in acupuncture, homeopathy and herbs for small animals, horses and farm animals. When his treatments cease making a difference he hands his patients over to Reiki, whilst keeping a record of their progress and occasionally topping-up with his treatments. This was particularly true with his most longstanding client whom he had treated since a pup.

This is Shula’s story. Although she departed from earth’s plane, I have asked permission to share this.

Shula took the form of a large German Shepherd. She was the proud companion of a widow whom relied on her for company. Shula arrived as a pup and as the family left the home, so her physical body became weaker and arthritis set in the hips, gradually getting worse with the years until such time as the joints gave way to leave bone rubbing on bone.

Acupuncture and homeopathic remedies kept disease at bay and the energy flowing until it no longer had the desired affect. Reiki to the rescue. Shula became a regular client of mine over her last fourteen months, receiving treatments at the surgery until she could not longer enjoy her car journey, so I visited her at home.

Shula’s playful nature, accepting grace and will not to give up, puzzled her companion and vet. On numerous occasions it was discussed that she should be put down only to find she was full of energy. Her wobbling back legs were pulled on by a very strong front body and fantastic brain. Each treatment was different, increasing in duration while the barks of thanks increased with velocity. Shula was not going any where.

Playing with the urban foxes, chasing squirrels up trees and giving endless love to her companion was her enjoyment.

During the last weeks of her life, I asked to be present before she was visited by the vet to be put down. I felt it was my job to help a good friend on her journey and to assure her that a happier, disease free, fun life awaited her and that her companion would be OK.

The bark welcomed me was immense. The sadness in the lady’s eyes well hidden. I treated Shula as normal, her now mange ridden tail and back end a shadow of her fluffy front. She was showing bone where she had chewed her way through the itching. I sent telepathy with trust and love from an open heart. Her eyes saddened knowing it was time to go. I said goodbye and helped the vet release Shula from pain and her spirit took flight.

I delivered Shula’s body to the pet cemetery. My parting words to my loving friend – it’s my honour to know such a beautiful soul.

Bringing Bella Back
Bella, a cremelo mare, was diagnosed and suffered with Laminitis and Cushing's disease. “The Pink Lady”, known for her shimmering pink summer coat, at 22 had been a loving companion for over 16 years to Pippa, who lovingly nurtured and worked her friend. Prescribed conventional medicines from her vet and visits from the farrier could not relieve the pain or help her walk. Her coat was matted, rough and thick, her eyes dull and her head hung low. Her hooves were hot; she was lacking in energy, in pain and did not want to move, so they decided to give Reiki a try.

After a consultation, the tranquil treatment established the parts which needed healing, and gently energy was channeled by placing hands on the body’s energy centres and then on the legs and hooves. The body was re-energized, balanced and cleansed of negativity, which enabled the natural healing process to take place, releasing pain on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

A week later, Bella was running around, her attitude had changed and Pippa was amazed. Bella had three further treatments, each time developing her strength and confidence. Her coat ended up smooth and shiny and she now hacks-out and gallops with a big attitude. "I don’t think she would be here without Reiki. I was going to have her put to sleep as she was in so much pain. There was so much change in her, she has her sparkle back. A totally different Bella," commented Pippa Wilson.

Who’s Will?
Cruffs – International dog show run by the Kennel Club of Great Britain is held once a year and top breeders from the canine world converge in Birmingham to gain the biggest accolade of all ‘Champion of Cruffs’. There is also ‘Best in Group’, ‘Best of Breed’, and runners-up for each class. Dogs are judged for performance, physical structure, grooming and turnout.

I attended Cruffs two years ago having been some years part of this world as a top breeder and judge. This was before Reiki came into my life. Now as a teacher/practitioner and a sensory, my experience was all enveloping.

Visitors would normally spend at least a day there but I could just manage an hour. A disappointment since my roundtrip journey time was six hours long. What was going on? I was grounded, protected and very happy before entering the massive halls. I had gone from this to very sad, could not wait to get out. Wherever I looked sorrowful faces where looking at me. I was picking up how unhappy the dogs were. They just wanted to be free, and away from the artificial environment.

For some dogs Cruffs is a very enjoyable experience, but not for all. Sitting around in a travel box or waiting pen or being groomed for the next performance, the dogs wanted to be released. And so did I.

To all healers and animal companions, please ask the animal if he wants to do the showing? Or is just the human who wants to be the exhibitionist?!!

Our lessons to learn – we all have free will – we are all equals – just in different guises.
